A former holiday camp at Atherfield Bay on the Isle of Wight is being turned into a new lodge resort. Island Echo reported on 3 November 2026 that Evergreen Escapes Group is behind a multi-million-pound investment to create The Isle of Wight Resort, overlooking Atherfield Bay on the Island's south-west coast.

What is planned

According to Island Echo, the resort will have 63 luxury lodges, along with leisure and wellbeing facilities including an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. The operator's page for the resort describes lodges with private decking and clifftop properties with sea views, set along Military Road on the island's south coast.

Island Echo also reports that the resort will include The Wight Isle Lounge, a café and restaurant serving drinks, pastries and freshly cooked pizzas, which will be open to holidaymakers and local residents. A limited number of leisure memberships are to be made available to Islanders who want to use the health and wellbeing facilities.

Opening and bookings

The resort is set to welcome its first guests in April 2027. Island Echo reports that bookings are now being taken for stays from April 2027, with 38 lodges currently available to book. The remaining accommodation will be offered for sale or rental as part of a second phase of development next year.

A site that never opened under its previous owners

The Atherfield Bay site was granted planning permission in 2022, but the proposed resort never opened under its previous owners. The new investment means the former holiday camp now has a confirmed opening date.

Jobs and the local economy

Evergreen Escapes Group forecasts an additional £2 million in annual visitor spending, and more than 30 jobs are expected to be created across the resort. A recruitment open day is being planned for early 2027.

Geoff Cowley, CEO of Evergreen Escapes Group, told Island Echo: "The Isle of Wight Resort will be a fantastic addition to the Island's already thriving hospitality scene when it opens."

The investment has been welcomed by Visit Isle of Wight. Dominic Wray, its Interim CEO, said: "There's very little visitor accommodation on the Island's south-west coast, so a high-quality destination here gives people a reason to stay in the area rather than just pass through on a day trip."

What it means for Isle of Wight owners

It is encouraging to see a long-stalled site brought back to life with fresh investment, and Visit Isle of Wight's comments point to the hope of more overnight stays on the Island outside the traditional summer season. For anyone who already owns a static caravan or lodge on the Isle of Wight, news like this is a reminder that the Island continues to attract investment in holiday accommodation.
