Holiday park operator Away Resorts has published a survey of its holiday home owners, looking at why people buy a static caravan or lodge and what they say they get out of it. The findings, set out in Away Resorts' Holiday Park Community Report, were covered by StayUKNews on 28 October 2026 and Caravan Times on 2 November 2026.

About the survey

According to the report's methodology, Away Resorts surveyed 373 existing holiday home owners across its parks between 20 August and 2 September 2026. StayUKNews describes Away Resorts as the operator of 25 parks across the UK. The results reflect the views of Away Resorts owners rather than holiday home owners as a whole.

Interest in static caravans

Caravan Times and StayUKNews both report that online searches for "static caravans for sale" are running at more than 20,000 a month in the UK, up 53% on last year. StayUKNews describes this as recently published figures released alongside the report. The Away Resorts report page itself does not give the search figure, so we have attributed it to the news coverage.

Why owners say they bought

The report says:

  • 60% of owners bought for a guaranteed holiday whenever they want one
  • 57% were looking for a home away from home
  • two-fifths bought to escape the stress of everyday life
  • 69% rate being able to visit at short notice among the biggest perks

Priorities differed by age. The report says 68% of owners aged 45 to 54 bought to escape everyday stress, and 59% of that group wanted more quality time with family. Among respondents over 65, 44% saw their holiday home as something for their children or grandchildren to enjoy.

Health, family and community

In the report, 63% of respondents said owning a UK holiday home has helped improve their physical health, and 62% said the same for their mental health and wellbeing. Almost a third (31%) bought with retirement in mind, and the report says 80% of that group reported a positive impact on their physical health.

The report also says owners across age ranges reported better family relationships (56% to 63% of respondents) and a better social life (42% to 48%). Among owners with children or grandchildren, 72% said screen time goes down on park compared with at home.

Kate Watts, Senior Marketing Manager at Away Resorts, said in the report: "Having a place that you can call yours, no surprises and surrounded by loved ones is the recipe for a perfect holiday."

What it means if you are thinking of selling

The survey is a snapshot of how one operator's owners feel about ownership, and the search figures reported by Caravan Times and StayUKNews point to continued interest in static caravans for sale. For anyone weighing up whether to keep or sell their own holiday home, it is a reminder of the reasons people are drawn to buying in the first place.
