Congratulations are in order in Abergele. Ty Gwyn holiday park has won a Wales in Bloom Gold Award for the second consecutive year, according to Wales247. The North Wales park received the award at a ceremony in Talgarth, Powys.

A team effort from staff and owners

Wales247 reports that staff and caravan owners both contributed to the entry, which featured:

  • Wildflower areas with butterfly, bird and bug houses.
  • New flower beds, including a Pyramid bed.
  • Sunflowers grown by some of the caravan owners, with the park also holding a sunflower competition.
  • New trees planted across the holiday park.
  • A herb patch created for customers of the on-site restaurant, The Peacock Lounge.

Sustainability on the park

The park's submission also covered its sustainability initiatives. According to Wales247, these include:

  • A 35kW solar array on the park's outbuildings, which provides renewable energy to customers.
  • LED lights to save energy.
  • Two electric vehicle charging points, each providing a charge of up to 22kW for two cars.

What the park said

Ty Gwyn is a third-generation family business and is recognised as one of the oldest holiday parks in the UK. Angharad Owen, a director of Ty Gwyn, said: "We are thrilled to have won the Gold Award. It is a tribute to the hard work, skill and enthusiasm of our dedicated team at Ty Gwyn and the support of our caravan owners."

She added: "Our goal is to create beautiful surroundings for the Ty Gwyn community to enjoy and to continue implementing a range of sustainability initiatives across the site."
