Introduction

The Willerby Winchester name was used on several marks of holiday home, and they are not all the same. This guide focuses on the best-documented version, the Mk 4 of 2010 to 2011, explains what we know about earlier marks, and sets out how a Winchester is valued for sale.

Model history

Willerby used the Winchester name across several marks. Leisuredays and Out and About Live reviewed the Winchester Mk 4 in autumn 2010 (Out and About Live, December 2010 issue): a 38ft x 12ft 6in holiday home offered with two or three bedrooms, an open-plan version, and an Outlook version with French doors. Double glazing and gas central heating were standard, and Out and About Live put the price at under £34,000.

Owners commenting on the Leisuredays review mention 2006 and 2007 (Mk 2) Winchesters with lighter wood and an open-plan layout, so earlier marks differ. We could not establish when the name was first used or when it ended. Dealer listings suggest a later 13ft-wide Winchester around 2017 to 2018, which we have not verified.

How to identify a Willerby Winchester

  • Start with the plate and paperwork. Check the manufacturer plate, serial or chassis number and any original paperwork, then confirm the model against the measured size, layout and specification.
  • Mk 4 (2010 to 2011): very dark wood-effect units, a separate lounge behind a party wall and door on most layouts (open plan was an option), bay window or optional French doors in the lounge end wall, en-suite WC (no shower) off the full-width master bedroom, and a bath with shower over in the main bathroom.
  • Mk 2 (around 2007): owners describe light wood and an open-plan lounge and kitchen.
  • Width: the Mk 4 is 12ft 6in wide, not 12ft or 13ft.
  • Measure it yourself. Advert headlines often round sizes or misstate the width.

Specs and typical layout

The details below are for the Mk 4 unless stated. Earlier and later Winchesters may differ.

  • Bedrooms (Mk 4): 2 or 3
  • Versions (Mk 4): standard with separate lounge, open plan, and Outlook with French doors
  • Build (Mk 4): galvanised chassis, aluminium cladding
  • Heating and glazing (Mk 4): PVCu double glazing and gas central heating standard
  • Bathrooms (Mk 4): en-suite WC (no shower) and a main bathroom with bath and shower over

How much is a Willerby Winchester worth?

There is no single figure for a Willerby Winchester. A cash offer depends on the individual caravan: its year, confirmed size and layout, specification, condition, and what collection involves. Several marks share the name, from mid-2000s models to the 2010 to 2011 Mk 4 and possibly later 13ft-wide versions, so a single range would mislead.

Individual valuation recommended.

What would SCB actually pay?

We do not publish a fixed trade-value band for this model because year, specification, condition and collection requirements can make too much difference.

What we pay for a Willerby Winchester is a trade price for the caravan itself, removed from the pitch. It will be below park, dealer and private asking prices, because those include things a trade buyer does not get (a pitch, siting, site-fee packages, warranties and the seller's margin) and leave out costs a trade buyer carries (collection, transport, refurbishment and resale).

Online prices and price context

  • New price, Mk 4 (2010): under £34,000 (Out and About Live)

We have not found reliable dated used prices for the Winchester, so we do not quote any. Any price you see should be read with its year, mark, and whether it is a sited park price, an off-site dealer price or a private asking price.

Retail vs private vs trade: what the numbers mean

  • Manufacturer RRP or list price: what the maker quotes for a new caravan, usually before options, delivery, siting and pitch fees. Check whether VAT is included.
  • Ex-works price: the factory price for a new unit before delivery and siting; review sites quote it for the model year they tested.
  • Dealer retail asking price: a dealer's price for new or used stock. Off-site dealer prices usually exclude a pitch; dealer margin is built in.
  • Sited park asking price: what a park asks for a caravan already on a pitch. It often includes siting, connections, steps, decking and sometimes a period of site fees, plus the park's margin.
  • Private asking price: what an owner hopes to get, often with the caravan staying on its pitch, subject to park approval and any park commission.
  • Trade or cash buyer value: what a buyer such as SCB pays for the caravan itself, removed from the pitch and collected. It is lower than retail because the buyer pays for collection, transport, any refurbishment, a new pitch or resale, and takes on the risk.

An asking price is not a sale price, and neither is what a trade buyer pays. None of the figures in this guide is an SCB purchase price.

What affects Willerby Winchester value?

  • Year and paperwork. The plate, serial number and any original paperwork confirm the model year and specification.
  • Confirmed size and layout. Measured length, width and bedroom count, not an advert headline.
  • Heating and glazing. Whether central heating and double glazing were fitted, and whether the heating works.
  • Condition. Damp, roof, floors, windows, cladding and chassis condition matter more than cosmetic finish.
  • Appliances and fittings. Whether they are present, safe and working.
  • Collection access. Ground conditions, access for the transport vehicle and the caravan's width all affect cost.
  • Pitch or no pitch. A trade buyer is buying the caravan, not the pitch, so pitch value and site-fee packages do not transfer.

Known features and quirks

  • The Mk 4's dark wood finish split opinion when new; earlier marks are lighter.
  • The separate lounge on the Mk 4 can serve as an extra sleeping room.

FAQs

Which Winchester do I have?

Check the plate and paperwork for the year and any Mk wording, then compare the width and interior: the Mk 4 is 12ft 6in wide with dark wood-effect units.

Did every Winchester have central heating?

The Mk 4 had double glazing and gas central heating as standard. We have not confirmed this for earlier marks, so check yours.

Can I sell it and keep the pitch?

No. A trade buyer buys the caravan and removes it. Talk to your park about notice, any final site fees and what happens to the pitch.
